Congratulations, General Secretary Elect!

28 July 2019

Two days ago, the CoE Parliamentary Assembly elected Marija Pejčinović Burić (Croatia) to the post of Secretary General of the Council of Europe for a five-year term beginning on 18 September 2019. She obtained 159 votes, an absolute majority in the first round of the election. There were 264 votes cast. Ms Pejčinović Burić is Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia.

At the Press Point held shortly afterwards the General Secretary Elect was introduced by the President of the Parliamentary Assembly Ms Liliane Maury-Pasquier who expressed her joy at the fact of the second woman will lead the Council of Europe turning 70 this year. Then followed Ms Pejčinović Burić, who expressed thanks for the support from diverse quarters.

She then touched on seven themes that would matter to her term of office. The third of these items was the topic of Dialogue.
This is good news to INGO Dialogues and we take note of this with pleasure.

Whilst warmly congratulating the General Secretary Elect we look forward to good cooperation on Dialogues which, according to us is a way from polarization to participation. Dobro doshli, gospođa!
